Fat Transfer
We are constantly bombarded with messages about the dangers of fat, but healthy fat can be a helpful tool for plastic surgeons who use it to enhance various areas of the body through fat transfer or fat grafting. As the body ages fat cells can alter its shape and skin loses its elasticity. When this happens, we see issues such as hip dips, saggy buttocks and wrinkles in facial areas. A fat transfer is a procedure that harvests a patient’s fat and injects it into areas of the body to create an overall more youthful appearance.
WHAT AREAS OF THE BODY CAN FAT BE REMOVED FOR A FAT TRANSFER?
A surgeon can remove fat from the following areas of the body:
- Thighs
- Hips
- Flanks
- Belly
- Arms
- Back
- Waist
WHAT AREAS OF THE BODY CAN A SURGEON TRANSFER FAT?
A surgeon can transfer fat to many areas of the body, including the buttocks, hips and flanks during an Ultrasound Guided Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), face, lips, cheeks and under the eyes. Technically, you can transfer fat to the breasts, but we do not recommend this procedure for breasts as we find the results aren’t as strong as other breast surgeries, such as augmentation (implants) and breast lifts.
FAT TRANSFER PROCEDURES:
The most popular fat transfer procedures at PURE is the BBL where fat can be harvested from the back, stomach, thighs, waist and arms and injected into the buttocks and hips. This procedure is very popular as it restores a tighter shape and youthful appearance.
WHO’S A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR FAT TRANSFER?
Fat transfer procedures are not a weight loss solution. Strong candidates for this procedure are in good health, at their ideal weight and are non-smokers. It is important to meet BMI standards and to look at the procedure as an enhancement and not a means to replace diet and exercise.
HOW LONG DOES FAT TRANSFER LAST?
Results can last a lifetime depending on your body and how many fat cells survive the procedure and whether you are able to maintain your weight. At six (6) months after the procedure patients will see the desires results. Some patients require more than one round to achieve their body goals. The number of rounds depends on your initial weight and the area of fat you want enhanced and the ideal volume of fat required. The state of Florida has guidelines about the amount of fat that can be harvested so make sure you speak with your surgeon about your desired results.
HOW LONG DOES FAT TRANSFER SURGERY LAST?
The surgery itself lasts from one (1) hour to four (4) hours depending on the procedure. During the surgery, excess fat is removed via liposuction and then the fat is purified before it is injected back into the body. It is common to have swelling, tenderness, and bruising after surgery. Your surgeon will recommend wearing a compression garment for several weeks.
