Update your Breast Implants in Miami, FL
Breast augmentation is a common procedure that women undergo to enhance the fullness of their breasts. Though most women are satisfied with their implants, there are instances where you may want to exchange your implants for a different size or shape. This might be due to changes in your body after pregnancy or if an implant has shifted out of place. In some cases, you might just be ready for something different, whether it's going bigger or smaller.
If you’re not happy with your breast implants for any reason, the team at PURE Plastic Surgery can update your look with a breast implant exchange, helping you fall in love with the size and shape of your augmented breasts all over again. New and improved implants are continuously being created, and we offer the most advanced and reliable implants on the market.
What is Breast Implant Exchange?
A breast implant exchange is a surgical procedure where your doctor will remove old breast implants and replace them with something different. Breast implants are not meant to be lifelong medical devices, and you may need to exchange your implants as time passes to maintain the best results — especially if you’ve had your implants for a few decades.
In most cases, the implant options available to you are the same as when you came in for your original breast augmentation procedure. However, advancements in technology mean that breast implants are more durable and lasting longer than ever before.
During your consultation, your surgeon will take measurements of your current breasts and discuss what you’d like to change about your look. Then, they’ll recommend going either bigger or smaller depending on your goals, and review the differences between saline, silicone and gummy bear implants. The sky is truly the limit when it comes to selecting your new implants, and our goal is to bring your vision to life and provide you with results that you’ll love.

What should I expect during my consultation?
If you’re considering exchanging your breast implants, the consultation process will be a lot less nerve-wracking than before since you’ve already been through this process. During your consultation, you’ll meet with your surgeon to discuss why you’re unhappy with your current breast implants and what you would like to change about them. You’ll explore the different types of implant options available and learn how they will work with your body. We will also evaluate the reasons your implants didn’t work out the first time and have an open discussion about ways that can help make your new ones last longer.
How does a Breast Implant Exchange work?
The best news about breast implant exchange surgery is that the pockets where the implant will go are already there, meaning a faster surgery and recovery period. Much of the surgical procedure you’ll already be familiar with. Make sure to follow the instructions prior to surgery. Your procedure will take place in an outpatient surgery center. You’ll then be given anesthesia, and the implant will be inserted through the same incision as your first surgery.
If you’ve chosen a type of implant that calls for a different incision to be made, your surgeon will discuss this with you before surgery. Your procedure will go much quicker than your initial breast augmentation. You’ll be able to return home after you wake up from anesthesia. Make sure you have someone to drive you and stay with you for the first 24 to 48 hours after surgery.
Breast Implant Exchange recovery
If everything goes well during surgery, your recovery time should be far less than your first breast augmentation. The risk of bleeding and infection should also be lower with a breast implant exchange. It should take around seven to 10 days for pain and swelling to ease, allowing you to return to a normal daily schedule. Make sure to take it easy during this time and rest as needed — this will make your healing go faster and lead to a speedy recovery.
As with any surgery, you’ll want to watch for side effects such as pain or swelling with a fever and excessive bleeding or bruising. Continue to keep an eye out for redness, pus at the incision site or fluid leakage. Excessive nausea should also be monitored and reported to your doctor. As you heal, look for signs of scar tissue or any movement of your new breast implants.
