WHAT IS BREAST AUGMENTATION?

Breast augmentation adds volume and projection to the breasts, usually through the use of an implant. Implants come in materials such as silicone and saline, both of which have advantages and disadvantages. Dr. Earle will discuss implant choices with you. He has dedicated considerable time to understanding the safety of various implants and only uses the types that meet his standards. Augmentation can add size and volume but cannot correct drooping or sagging. For this reason, many people require a breast lift with or without augmentation to achieve their desired results. 

WHAT IS A BREAST LIFT?

Sometimes combined with augmentation, a breast lift can correct loose skin and sagging breasts. The surgeon removes excess skin and tissue, then lifts the breast into its new, perky position. He will also reposition the areolas so they sit correctly on the reshaped breasts. A lift does not add volume, but some women do not want additional volume and will only want a lift. 

WHAT IS BREAST REDUCTION?

Breast reduction removes skin, fat, and glandular tissue to reduce the size of the breasts while giving them an attractive shape and profile. As with a breast lift, Dr. Earle may reposition the areolas to provide the patient with the best possible breast appearance. Some women also choose a breast reduction with a lift if the size of their breasts has caused sagging or drooping. 

WHAT IS BREAST REDUCTION, LIFT, OR AUGMENTATION LIKE?

Dr. Earle will perform the procedure under general anesthesia. Incisions for breast augmentation can be placed in a variety of areas, but incisions for breast lifts require somewhat larger incisions since they remove excess skin and adjust the areolas. 

IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME?

After the procedure, you should plan to take up to a week off from work and you may have to wait up to six weeks before resuming all normal activities. Full healing can take up to six months before all swelling has gone away. The details of your recovery time depend on which procedure you have performed.
