In osseous genioplasty, an incision is made inside the mouth, and the chin bone is repositioned to a new location. The jaw itself is not broken-- only the chin button is moved, allowing for a controlled adjustment without restrictions on diet or mouth movement.

This technique enables precise three-dimensional repositioning of the chin and allows for modification of the labiomental crease. Additionally, moving the chin forward tightens the neck's soft tissues, creating a rejuvenated and more youthful appearance. The repositioned chin bone is secured with a titanium plate for stability.

Recovery After Surgery

Post-surgery, the chin is often taped to reduce swelling and discomfort. If the incision is made inside the mouth, sutures will dissolve  naturally. Sutures under the chin are typically removed within 1 to 2 weeks.

While initial results are visible almost immediately, swelling may obscure the final outcome, which can take several months to fully resolve. Temporary numbness in the lower lip is common but usually subsides within a few weeks.
