How Long Does it Take to Recover from Tummy Tuck?

If you are unhappy with the appearance of your stomach, a tummy tuck could be the perfect treatment for you. Whether you have recently shed weight and have loose skin or you have just given birth, a tummy tuck can boost your appearance and your confidence at the same time.

We are delighted to offer this treatment at Pure Plastic Surgery. Read on to discover everything you need to know about it.

TUMMY TUCK OVERVIEW

Also known as abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck is a form of cosmetic surgery that will enhance your stomach area. It involves removing excess fat and loose skin, as well as tightening the muscles in your abdominal area.

The purpose of a tummy tuck is to get rid of any excess skin that you are not able to remove through exercise. Most people tend to have extra skin because they have lost a lot of weight or they have given birth.

TUMMY TUCK PROCEDURE

The tummy tuck procedure will depend on whether you have a full abdominoplasty or partial abdominoplasty.

A partial tummy tuck involves the following process:

  • A large cut will be made across the lower stomach
  •
  • The surgeon will separate your skin from the abdominal wall underneath the belly button
  •
  • Excess skin and fat is removed
  •
  • The remaining skin is pulled together and stitched in place

If you’re having a full abdominoplasty, the following procedure is to be expected:

  • An incision is made across the lower stomach, from hip-to-hip
  •
  • A second incision is made to free the belly button from the tissue around it
  •
  • The skin is separated from the abdominal wall
  •
  • The abdominal muscles are realigned
  •
  • Excess skin and fat is removed
  •
  • A new hole is made for optimal positioning of the belly button, stitching this back in place
  •
  • The remaining skin is pulled together, stitching it in place

TUMMY TUCK RECOVERY

To make a full recovery from a tummy tuck, it will take up to six weeks to heal entirely. It is important to follow the aftercare guidance that the surgeon gives you. You will be told what to involve in the six weeks after the surgery, as well as how to drain tubes and care for the incisions.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR A TUMMY TUCK?

The ideal candidate for a tummy tuck is someone who has excess skin that they want to get rid of.

It is important to note that this is not a weight loss solution. It is not designed for individuals who are overweight and want to shed several pounds. Instead, you should be a healthy weight and in good health generally, both in regard to your physical and mental health.

It is vital that you have realistic expectations of your treatment, and this is something that you will be able to discuss during your consultation.
