Will I need a second-round BBL?

A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a procedure done to enhance the appearance of the buttocks. During the procedure fat is harvested from a patient’s body through liposuction and then the fat is purified and injected into the buttocks and hips to reshape, increase volume and create a fuller figured bottom. Most patients only have one (1) BBL round of fat injected, but others may require two (2) or three (3) surgeries to achieve their desired results.

For safety reasons, the State of Florida allows surgeons to only extract 4 liters, equal to 4000cc and roughly 7-8 pounds of fat during BBL surgery. If there is another procedure being performed, then only one (1) liter of fat can be removed during surgery. These limitations on the amount of fat that can be extracted means the amount of fat that can be injected is also limited. For the patients who want more volume, this may mean additional rounds are required.

Areas where fat may be harvested during a BBL, include the lower back, hips, thighs, arms, abdomen and flanks. Due to the limit on the amount of fat harvested, this may mean that some areas that require liposuction to create the desired results from the BBL, may not receive contouring. If one of those areas is left untouched to comply with state guidelines, then additional rounds may be needed.

Together with our BBL patients we work to determine the proper number of surgeries required to reach the patient’s body goals. However, this number may change depending on how much fat the body retains after each round. If two (2) rounds of surgery are a part of the plan, but the buttocks is the size and volume the patient wants after the fluffing stage of the first round, then a second round may not be necessary. It is important to go through the recovery process and allow the body to heal before making the decision to have another surgery.

How long do I have to wait to have another round for a BBL?

After each BBL round, a patient should wait at least 9 months to go for another round. This is to ensure the additional round is needed and for the surgeon to determine where the fat should be harvested from and injected into the buttocks. For some patients, the surgeon may require a waiting period of up to one year to determine if an additional round will help attain the desired shape.
